DVD Talk: Alternate ending(s) for "The Butterfly Effect"

First, make sure to say good luck to Vilma, she's starting grad school soon. And she'll need all the support she can get. She'll be going SIX days a week! Say, whoa!

Ok, let's move on, this will contain SPOILERS, about the ending, so if you haven't seen this movie yet... TURN AWAY NOW!!

Okay, so the DVD comes with this "Infinifilm" feature which lets you a) get more info about the movie (behind the scenes, bonus info, etc..), b) alternate/deleted scenes, c) alternate endings to the theatrical version, and d) the "Director's Cut" alternate ending.

Now the "behind the scenes" are ok, the alternate/deleted scenes are ok, the theatrical version alternate endings are BO-ZACK! But the "Director's Cut" alternate ending is wild!

First, in the theatrical version, the ending is Kaely walks by and Evan notices her. The theatrical version alternate endings are basically the same, except that in one, she notices him and then keeps walking, (BO-ring). In another, he notices and then follows him. (big SIGH). In yet another, they both notice each other (YAWN!).

Now, in the Director's Cut, towards the end, instead of going back to the party and saying mean things to Kaley so she'll move away and in with her mom, he does something TOTALLY different. He instead watches a home movie of his own mother going into labor. Yup, that's right. He goes back to WHEN HE WAS STILL IN THE WOMB! WHAT!! And what does he do to "fix" the past? He strangles himself with HIS OWN UMBILICAL CORD! It's SO wild to see a fetus using both arms, OUTSTRETCHED, to kill itself. That was a great ending, MUCH better than the theatrical version. If you get the chance, watch it.
